A gallery-first digital experience for the obsessive work of Matthew Manthe.
Matthew Manthe’s work is dense, psychological, and driven by graphite ritual. Standard web layouts suffocated the detail. We built a digital gallery that steps back and lets the silence frame the noise.
Visit Live ArchiveThe artwork is extremely heavy. Hundreds of hours of graphite work go into each piece. A typical white-walled portfolio site felt too sterile. It clashed with the "bone and dust" texture of the work.
We needed a container that didn't just hold the images but respected their weight. The navigation had to be invisible until needed. The spacing had to be deliberate. Every interaction needed to feel like turning a page in an old sketchbook.
We collaborated with the artist to transform his Camo plaster piece into a living entry experience. Using generative tools, the original sculpture was carefully interpreted into a subtle animation. The cat blinks, breathes, and holds eye contact while preserving the character of the physical work.
The result is a living artwork that establishes tone and atmosphere before the gallery is entered.
Not a replacement, but an extension.
